Gwinnett Stripers News Release

DURHAM, NC - Hak-Ju Lee's two-run triple off right-hander Pedro Beato broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the sixth and paced the Durham Bulls (70-65) to a 5-3 win over the Gwinnett Braves (60-75) on Sunday night at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

In that bottom of the sixth, G-Braves' starter Kanekoa Texeira retired the first two batters, but then walked Jeremy Moore and Wilson Betemit to put runners on first and second. Beato entered from the bullpen to pitch to Lee and his first pitch was smacked deep to right field for a triple, scoring both Moore and Betemit for a 4-2 lead.

The Bulls added a run in the bottom of the eighth as Moore (10) hit a solo home run to right off Gwinnett left-hander Daniel Rodriguez to make it 5-2.

The G-Braves cut the deficit to 5-3 in the top of the ninth as Todd Cunningham (8) drilled a pitch from Adam Liberatore deep over the left field wall for a solo home run. Brandon Boggs then stroked a one-out double off the wall in left, but Liberatore struck out Sean Kazmar and Elmer Reyes to end the threat and the game.

Gwinnett had taken an early lead against Durham starter Enny Romero as Kazmar led off the top of the second with a double to left, moved to third on a single to left by Ozzie Martinez and scored on a single to right by Steve Lerud for a 1-0 lead.

However, in the bottom of the second, the Bulls rallied against Texeira with two outs and no one on. Texeira walked Lee and gave up a single to Mayo Acosta. Nick Franklin hit a ground ball behind second base that was fielded by Martinez, but his throw to second was off the bag enabling Lee to score to tie the game at 1-1. Tim Beckham then singled to right, scoring Acosta to put Durham ahead 2-1.

In the top of the fifth, Gwinnett tied the game at 2-2 as Jose Constanza led off with an infield single and scored on a two-out triple to left-center by Boggs.

Texeira (L, 3-4) went 5.2 innings with four hits, four earned runs, five walks and three strikeouts. Beato went 1.2 innings with one hit and four strikeouts. Rodriguez pitched 0.2 of an inning with one hit, one earned run and one strikeout.

Riefenhauser worked 1.0 inning. Liberatore (S, 2) pitched 1.0 inning with two hits, one earned run and two strikeouts.

Boggs and Kazmar each had multi-hit games for the G-Braves. Boggs went 2-for-5 with a double, triple and an RBI, while Kazmar went 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored.

Lee led Durham by going 1-for-1 with a triple, two walks and two RBIs.
