Barons Drop Third-Straight to M-Braves

Birmingham, Ala. - The Birmingham Barons dropped their fourth game in a row and third straight against the Mississippi Braves, falling by a score of 7-1 at Trustmark Park.
The M-Braves took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning on RBI singles by Kyle Kubitza and Cedric Hunter against starter Terance Marin (0-1, 9.00). The lead increased to 5-0 in the third inning on RBI hits by Seth Loman, Mycal Jones and Braeden Schlehuber.
Marin, making his Double-A debut, allowed five runs on 10 hits over 5.0 IP before being lifted prior to the sixth inning in favor of reliever Braulio Ortiz.
The M-Braves tacked on two additional runs in the seventh on a Braeden Schlehuber RBI double against Ortiz extending their lead to 7-0.
Mississippi starter Williams Perez (7-6, 2.91) surrendered just two hits and struck out six 8.0 shutout innings before allowing the first two batters to reach in the ninth. An RBI groundout by Tim Anderson broke up the shutout bid in the ninth but wasn't enough to overcome the seven run deficit.
With the loss, the Barons fell to 58-75 on the season and 29-34 in the second half while Mississippi improved to 78-54 on the year and 39-24 in the second half.
The Barons will look to snap their losing streak tomorrow night as RHP Chris Bassitt (3-0, 0.87) takes the hill against RHP Joe Gardner (2-2, 3.21). First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM CDT.
