Frisco RoughRiders News Release

MIDLAND, TEXAS (AUGUST 24, 2014) - After a four-run frame on Saturday, the Frisco RoughRiders cashed in for five runs in the fifth inning on Sunday and kept the Midland RockHounds at bay for a 5-2 win at Security Bank Ballpark.

For the second game in a row, the RoughRiders scored all of their runs in a single inning. They have scored in two innings of the 18 played in the series.

Frisco trailed 1-0 at the start of the fifth. Midland starter Deryk Hooker lasted an expected four innings and surrendered only three hits with five strikeouts. The 'Riders fared much better against his replacement, Tim Sexton (1-2).

Three doubles opened the frame and gave Frisco the lead. Nomar Mazara knocked in J.T. Wise to get the 'Riders on the board and Hanser Alberto followed to give his team its first lead of the ballgame.

Two batters later, Guilder Rodriguez executed a successful sacrifice bunt that scored Alberto and extended the RoughRiders' edge to 3-1.

The inning continued to unravel for Sexton and the RockHounds as Nick Williams sent a pitch through the right side for a run-scoring single. Patrick Cantwell advanced to third on the play and later scored on a delayed double steal to put the 'Riders up 5-1. It was the first stolen base of the season for Cantwell.

The outburst helped secure the win for right-hander Jerad Eickhoff (10-8), who tossed seven innings for his third consecutive outing. Eickhoff allowed one run on three hits with three walks and seven strikeouts. His only run crossed on a solo home run by Blake Forsythe in the third inning.

The 'Riders (76-55; 36-26) clinch the three-game series with their second straight win against the RockHounds and fourth straight win at Security Bank Ballpark.

Midland (72-60; 34-28) falls 4 1/2 games behind Frisco in the overall standings and two games back in the second half.

The RoughRiders continue their three-game series against the RockHounds on Sunday at 2 p.m. It marks the final day game of the season for the RoughRiders and their first since July 15. Coverage begins with the Frisco RoughRiders Pregame Show at 1:40 p.m. on www.ridersbaseball.com.
