Red Wings Post-Game Notes

August 24, 2014 - International League (IL1)
Rochester Red Wings News Release

- THE ROCHESTER RED WINGS used a four-run rally in the eighth inning to surge past the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, 5-4, Sunday afternoon at Frontier Field. The victory was the Wings' fifth of the season when trailing after the seventh innings (5-54). Rochester will have a chance to win the series with a victory in the finale on Monday night (7:05 p.m.).

- PLAYOFF UPDATE: With just 7 games remaining in the regular season, the Wings are now 1.5 GB of Wild Card leaders Buffalo and Pawtucket. The Wings have 2 games remaining against each of these clubs ( vs. BUF, Aug-29-30 & @ PAW, Aug 31-Sept.1).

- DOUG BERNIER (1-for-3; 2B, 2 RBI, R) crushed a 1-0 fastball to the left-center field gap scoring Eric Farris and Aaron Hicks giving the Wings a 4-3 lead in the eighth inning. Bernier (hitting .317 with RISP this season) was just 1-for-his-last-15 with runners in scoring position before the eighth inning double. The double was his 25th of the season - 7 more than his previous career high (2013).

- LESTER OLIVEROS extended his scoreless streak to 19.2 innings over his last 11 games (11 H, 7 BB, and 31 SO). The 19.2-inning streak is the longest by a Wings pitcher since Kyle Gibson's 20.0-inning streak from 5/15-5/30/13. Oliveros has struck out multiple batters in each of his last 14 appearances (39 SO/24.0 IP) and in 17 of his 21 games with Rochester. If he had enough innings to qualify, his 13.50 SO/9 IP ratio would be best among International League relievers.

- DANIEL ORTIZ (2-for-4; HR, RBI) launched his eighth home run of the season to right field in the second inning scoring the Wings' first run. Ortiz's home run is his first since August 7 at Indianapolis and his first at home since July 27. The eight homers ranks T-2nd (Romero) on the team.

- STEPHEN PRYOR allowed a solo home run in the ninth inning snapping his 12.2-inning scoreless streak, but still locked down his 2nd save of the season for the Wings in as many chances. The only two runs allowed by Pryor in his 17.2 innings with the Wings have come via solo homers (LHV's Russ Canzler on Aug. 1). The league is now hitting just .073 (4-for-55) off him.

- ERIC FARRIS (3-for-4; R, RBI) has now recorded a hit in seven of his last nine games, batting .464 (13-for-28) with 3 2B and 2 RBI. The three-hit effort was his team-leading 42nd multi-hit game.

- TYLER DUFFEY lasted four innings allowing three runs (all in the 1st inning) on five hits and three walks while striking out three. The 77-pitch outing for Duffey, was the first time he hadn't made it to the through five innings since June 4 (14 starts). The home run allowed by Duffey was the 16th allowed by Wings starters in the last 15 games.
