Erie SeaWolves News Release

The SeaWolves salvaged the final game of the series on Sunday afternoon, taking down the Reading Fightin Phils 5-3 at First Energy Stadium.

Reading jumped ahead in the second against Erie starter Jeff Ferrell. K.C. Serna and Logan Moore each singled with one out. With two outs, Carlos Alonso singled home Serna for a 1-0 lead.

The SeaWolves tied the game in the third against Fightins starter Aaron Nola. Dixon Machado led off and belted a solo home run, his fifth, tying the game. The home run was the second in as many days for Machado.

Erie grabbed a lead against reliever Austin Wright in the sixth. Devon Travis led off with a walk and stole his second base of the game. Dean Green broke an 0-for-11 skid at the plate with a double to right, scoring Travis for a 2-1 Erie lead. Steven Moya followed with a two-run home run to right-center for a 4-1 lead. The home run for Moya was his league-leading 34th which also ties the Erie franchise record set by Kurt Airoso in 2004. Moya also reached the 100-RBI plateau and becomes just the second player in team history with 30 homers and 100 RBI in a single season (Mike Rivera in 2001).

Reading cut into the lead again in the sixth. Brock Stassi and Serna connected on back-to-backs singles and Moore walked, loading the bases. Edgar Duran lifted a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Stassi, making it a 4-2 game. Alonso followed with a sacrifice fly, plating Serna cutting the Erie lead down to a run a 4-3.

Erie added onto the lead in the seventh. Jamie Johnson walked, Jason Krizan singled and Travis walked loading the bases. With one out, Moya lifted a sacrifice fly to center scoring Krizan for a 5-3 lead. The RBI was the 101st of the season for Moya, tying him with Jeff Larish (2007) and Mike Rivera (2001).

Ferrell (9-9) earned the win. He allowed three runs on nine hits with two walks and six strikeouts in 5.2 innings of work.
