Charlotte Knights News Release
(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) - Chicago outfielder Adam Eaton, who is hitting .304 (113-for-372) in 94 games with the White Sox this season, will begin a Major League Rehab assignment with the Charlotte Knights tonight as the team continues a four-game series with the Norfolk Tides from BB&T Ballpark. Eaton was placed on the disabled list by Chicago back on August 9 with a strained right oblique.
Eaton, 25, will make his second rehab appearance with the Knights this season when he takes the field tonight at BB&T Ballpark. The Springfield, Ohio native rehabbed with Charlotte back on May 16 in Durham. He played in both games of the club's doubleheader that day and hit a combined .333 (2-for-6) with an RBI. He hit the go-ahead RBI single in the seventh inning to break a 1-1 tie and lead the Charlotte Knights to a 2-1 win over the Bulls in game one of the doubleheader.
Overall this season, the Miami (Ohio) University product has a .304 batting average with 55 runs scored, 19 doubles, seven triples, one home run, 32 RBIs, and 12 stolen bases. Eaton was obtained by the White Sox on December 10, 2013 from Arizona in exchange for Hector Santiago and Brandon Jacobs. Originally selected by Arizona in the 19th round of the 2010 draft, Eaton hit .252 with three home runs and 22 RBIs last season for the Diamondbacks in 66 games.
Gates open at 6:00 p.m. tonight and the Knights will welcome former Charlotte hoops star Matt Carroll to the ballpark, along with Hugo the Hornet and the Honey Bees. Carroll will throw out a ceremonial first pitch before tonight's 7:05 p.m. game. RHP Chien-Ming Wang (12-8, 4.21) gets the start for the Knights against Norfolk RHP Steve Johnson (0-1, 7.39).
