Jamestown Jammers News Release

JAMESTOWN, NY - The State College Spikes were firing on all cylinders at Diethrick Park Friday night. The Spikes pounded 14 hits en route to scoring eight runs, and their pitching was dominant in an 8-0 shutout victory over the Jamestown Jammers. The loss moved the Jammers overall record this season to 30-34, and they now find themselves six games back of the Brooklyn Cyclones in the New York-Penn League Wild Card Standings.

Alex McRae would keep the Spikes bats at bay through his first two innings of work. However, the State College bats would begin to come alive in the top of the third, when two runs scored via an RBI single from right fielder Nick Thompson, and an RBI single from first basemen Jake Stone to allow the Spikes to jump out to an early 2-0 advantage.

After State College pushed another run across in the top of the fifth inning on an RBI triple from third basemen Danny Diekroeger, they would put the game away in the sixth inning, by scoring five more runs. The Spikes would knock McRae out of the game in that sixth inning, and pick up six hits in the frame. One Jammer error also allowed the inning to continue. When all was said and done after six innings of play, the Spikes held an 8-0 lead. Six Spikes picked up multiple hits on the night. They were second basemen Darren Seferina, Diekroeger, Thompson, Stone, shortstop Robelys Reyes, and center fielder Jhohan Acevedo.

The Jammers had their chances to to put runs on the board throughout the game. However, as a team they went 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position. Center fielder Elvis Escobar, right fielder Jordan Luplow, designated hitter Michael Suchy (2), and third basemen Chase Simpson picked up the five Jammer hits on the evening.

For the Jammers on the mound, McRae's final line included working 5 1/3 innings, surrendering 10 hits, five runs (four earned), and striking out five. He also picked up the loss, making his record 3-5 in 13 starts for the Jammers this season. Eric Dorsch would relieve McRae with one out in the sixth, and work 1 2/3 innings, give up four hits, and three runs to get the Jammers through seven innings. 2014 All-Star Sam Street would pitch a perfect eighth for Jamestown, and Nick Neumann would follow Street with a perfect ninth.

The Jammers and Spikes will square off again Saturday night at Diethrick Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm. It is also the rescheduled Cummins Engine Community Night. Any original Cummins ticket will be valid for Saturday's game. Austin Coley, the eighth round pick in 2014 of the University of Belmont, will be on the mound for the Jammers. He will be opposed by right-handed pitcher Will Anderson of the Spikes.
