Charleston Dirty Birds News Release

(Charleston, WV)- The West Virginia Power ousted the Kannapolis Intimidators on Friday night at Appalachian Power Park 10-5. West Virginia poured on eight runs in the seventh to come back for the series opening win.

The Power took the early advantage with a pair of runs in the first behind an RBI single off the bat of Edwin Espinal. The Intimidators came storming back with two in the fourth on a Carl Thomore two-run home run before two more runs in the seventh.

West Virginia, however, would answer with eight runs in the bottom of the seventh. An RBI base hit from Wyatt Mathisen and a run-scoring triple from Austin Meadows got things going coupled with three Kannapolis errors in the inning. Erich Weiss would cap the inning off with a two-run blast to right field to make the score 10-5.

Clario Perez (4-1) earned the win while Matt Abramson (3-7) was charged with the loss. The win for West Virginia was their fourth in a row at home, the Power's longest such streak on the season.

West Virginia hosts the Kannapolis Intimidators on Saturday, August 23, at Appalachian Power Park. Luis Heredia will start against the Intimidators Robinson Leyer. For tickets or more information, call 304-344-BATS or visit www.wvpower.com.
