Tonight's Game
The Bisons will complete a two-game set with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders tonight at Coca-Cola Field (7:05 p.m.). Following tonight's game, Buffalo will finish their final homestand of the year with a four-game series against Pawtucket, August 23-26.
Playoff Race
Buffalo remains three games behind the PawSox in the Wild Card race after Pawtucket won in walk-off fashion over Lehigh Valley last night, 3-2. With 12 games to play, the Herd will face divisional opponents in each game, including the four-game series with the Red Sox.
vs. the RailRiders
With the 5-1 victory last night, the Bisons have knotted up the season series with the RailRiders at 6-6. Buffalo has the slight edge over Scranton/Wilkes-Barre at Coca-Cola Field with a 76-73 record. The two teams will finish their season series with a three-game set August 27-28 at PNC Field (Doubleheader on August 27).
Raul Valdes
LHP RAUL VALDES will make his 21st appearance and 10th start for the Herd tonight. The lefty is coming off a start where he allowed 4 runs after only yielding 2 or less in each of his previous 5 starts. Throughout the season, Valdes has given up more than 2 runs in a start only twice. In 66.2 total innings, the southpaw has fanned 69 batters.
Darin Mastroianni
OF DARIN MASTROIANNI extended his season-high hit-streak to 10 games with his 23rd multi-hit performance of the year last night. Over the streak, he is batting .317 (13-41) with six runs scored, a double, and his 2nd lead-off homer this season. In his last 21 games, Mastroianni has compiled 17 hits and a dozen walks.
Speed Kills
OF ANTHONY GOSE was successful in all four of his stolen base attempts last night. The four steals ties a Bisons modern era record with Bernie Tatis ("88), Albert Hall ("89), and Jordany Valdespin ("12). As a team this season, Buffalo has swiped 99 bags (3rd in IL).
Bisons Bits
OF DALTON POMPEY made his Triple-A debut last night and went 1-for-4. He marks the 72nd player to make an appearance as a Bison this year...LHP DANIEL NORRIS struck out nine batters in last night's victory. The southpaw has now struck out 32 batters in 16.2 innings.
Blue Jays Update
The Blue Jays (65-62) had yesterday off and will begin a nine-game homestand tonight against the Tampa Bay Rays. Former Bisons Marcus Stroman is scheduled to make the start for Toronto. The Jays are four games back in the Wild Card, tied with the Yankees and trailing Seattle and Detroit.
