Grant Jr., Sieverts, and Zink Named to 2014 All-MLL Team

August 22, 2014 - Major League Lacrosse (MLL) - Denver Outlaws News Release

DENVER - Attackman John Grant Jr., midfielder Jeremy Sieverts, and defenseman Lee Zink were named to the 2014 All-MLL Team, the league announced on Friday. Denver's three selections tied Rochester for the most in the MLL this season.

"Congratulations to our three guys named to the All-MLL Team. They are each deserving of the nod, and have been key contributors to our team this season. We are excited to have them on our side as we head to the MLL Championship this weekend," said Denver Outlaws Head Coach B.J. O'Hara

Junior was named to the All-MLL team for the third time (2007, '08, '14) in his career after scoring a goal in all 12 games he played during his first season playing for Denver. The 39-year old finished the 2014 MLL season with 54 points-28 goals and 26 assists-ranking top-three in the league for both points and assists. His 26 assists rank second all-time for most single-season assists in Outlaws history, and his 54 points were good for third place.

"Junior is one of the best lacrosse players in the world. On top of his obvious talent and leadership, Junior brings championship experience at every level he's played to this team. That's one of the big reasons we brought him in. He's a winner," said O'Hara.

The 11-year MLL veteran moved into first place for most career goals (281) in MLL history during the team's Week 13 win against the Chesapeake Bayhawks, and he ranks second for most career points with 457.

Sieverts earned his second-straight All-MLL selection after leading the league for two-point goals (7) and game-winning goals (4) during the 2014 season. Sieverts' four game-winners this season rank first in team history, and the midfielder racked up a total of 48 points, which ranks fifth in team history for most points in a single season.

"I think any team in the league would be glad to have him," said O'Hara. "He competes hard, he's got good size and speed, he's athletic-he's a tremendous competitor."

The fifth-year midfielder earned his third All-Star nod this season, and his game-winning goal on a late dish by Junior sealed a semifinal victory and trip to the 2014 MLL Championship for the Outlaws.

Zink earned his fourth-straight and fifth overall All-MLL selection (2009, '11-14). The 11-year veteran defenseman ranks sixth in MLL history with 129 games played, and played in his 100th career game as an Outlaw this season-the most for any player in team history.

"One of the things about Lee Zink is that a lot of times you don't notice him because the guy that he covers doesn't want to go against him so he just gives the ball up," said O'Hara. "I know he's very, very dedicated to trying to get us to our ultimate goal [an MLL Championship] and he'll do whatever he can to help get us there."

The two-time MLL Defensive Player of the Year (2012-13), was named Warrior Defensive Player of the Week for Week 7 this season, and anchored a defense that had statistically one of the best defensive games in franchise history the following week against the Bayhawks.

The three All-MLL selections and the rest of the Denver Outlaws squad face off against the No. 1 seeded Rochester Rattlers in the 2014 MLL Championship tomorrow at Fifth Third Bank Stadium in Kennesaw, Ga. at 7 p.m. EDT. It will be the Outlaws' fifth appearance in the championship game, and a win would be the team's first MLL Championship Title.
