Match Preview: Scorpions vs Atlanta Silverbacks August 23, 2014

August 22, 2014 - North American Soccer League (NASL) - San Antonio Scorpions News Release

The Scorpions looked all set to take three points on the road yet again last weekend in Ottawa, but a late goal by the Fury tied the match and San Antonio settled for the draw. The Scorpions are tied on points atop the NASL's Fall Season with Minnesota United and are just behind their northern I-35 neighbors in the combined standings.

The Alamo City boys are glad to be done with international travel for 2014 and back home at Toyota Field, where they haven't lost in six straight matches. Julius James will be back from red card suspension to bolster the defense and help maintain 'keeper Josh Saunders' perfect record at home; the mid-season loanee from Major League Soccer 2015 expansion franchise New York City FC has yet to concede a goal at Toyota Field. Trevin Caesar opened his Scorpions' account in impressive fashion with a long-range strike against Ottawa and fellow recent additions Cesar Elizondo and Ryan Guy hope to have the opportunity to do the same against the Silverbacks.

Atlanta is battling to stay in the playoffs race in the combined table as they currently sit in seventh place and four points back of Tampa Bay, who currently occupies fourth - and the final playoff slot. The Silverbacks have never won in San Antonio and in their four matches here have only managed even a draw once. They recently signed Costa Rican midfielder Brandon Poltronieri, who is expected to be an important player for the squad the rest of the fall campaign.

Below are links to PDF files that contain each side's media notes for Sunday's match between the San Antonio Scorpions and the Atlanta Silverbacks that will kickoff at 7:30pm (CT) Toyota Field. The match will be broadcast locally on MeTV (KSAT 12.2) and streamed online at NASL.com/LIVE.
