Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Visalia, CA - The Visalia Rawhide completed a three-game series-sweep on Thursday evening, as they held on to defeat the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes by a final of 5-3 at Recreation Park in Visalia.

Visalia starting pitcher Blayne Weller fanned 13 Quakes over just 5 2/3 innings, as Rancho struggled to make contact all night, going down on strikes a season-high 18 times.

Quakes' starter Tom Windle grinded his way through six innings, allowing five runs, four earned, suffering the loss.

Windle got taken deep in the second, as Steve McQuail's solo homer made it a 1-0 lead.

The Rawhide got two more in the third, as Alex Glenn doubled home a pair of runs to make it 3-0.

An unearned run added to Visalia's lead in the fourth, as a dropped fly ball by center fielder James Baldwin resulted in a 4-0 advantage.

The Quakes finally answered in the sixth, as the offense got going with two outs. Weller (3-2) walked Chris Jacobs with two down, ending his night. Reliever Justin Van Grouw gave up three consecutive hits upon entering the game. Aaron Miller greeted him with a two-run homer, his 14th of the year, slicing the deficit in half at 4-2. Kyle Farmer and Pratt Maynard then ripped back-to-back doubles, with Farmer coming into score to make it a one-run game at 4-3. Visalia went back to the bullpen, going with lefty Keith Hessler, who gave up a single to Dillon Moyer, but struck out James Baldwin to keep runners at the corners and Visalia in front by a run.

The Rawhide got an all important insurance run in the seventh against Windle (11-8), as Rudy Flores singled home Raul Navarro, making it 5-3.

The Quakes got some help from Visalia reliever Enrique Burgos to open the ninth, as Brandon Dixon and Adam Law both walked to start a rally. Burgos settled down and struck out the next three batters, recording his 28th save in as many chances this year to end the series and complete the sweep.

Rancho (29-31, 61-69) is now two games back in the Second Half standings and one game out of the Wild Card, behind High Desert.

The Quakes return to LoanMart Field on Friday, opening a six-game home stand, their final home stand of the regular season. Chris Anderson (7-7) will take on Stockton Ports' righthander Dylan Covey, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05pm. On Friday night, fans will enjoy the final Family RV $1 Family Feast of the year, as hot dogs, Pepsi products and ice cream sandwiches are just $1 throughout the night. Game time in the series-opener will be 7:05pm. Tickets are available by calling (909) 481-5000. We hope to see you very soon at LoanMart Field. Go Quakes!
