Mavs Shut out JetHawks to Avoid Sweep

LANCASTER, Calif. - The JetHawks went hitless in eight at-bats with runners in scoring position and were shut out, 5-0, but the High Desert Mavericks on Thursday night at The Hangar.

The shutout spoiled the JetHawks (74-56) chances of sweeping High Desert (62-68).

Jamal Austin hit the first pitch of the game over the left field fence for his first home run since rejoining High Desert.

Brian Holmes (5-2) allowed the homer and gave up runs in each of the first three innings before settling down. He ended up allowing four runs on nine hits over seven innings. He struck out seven without issuing a walk.

The Mavericks put up two runs in the first and single runs in the second and third innings. Reliever Gonzalo Sanudo allowed a run in the ninth inning to put five on the board for the Mavericks.

Lancaster finished 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position and left eight runners on base.

Danry Vasquez and Ronnie Mitchell each doubled and put up two hits in the game.

Lancaster heads to San Bernardino to take on the Inland Empire 66ers in the first game of a three-game set and six-game road trip on Friday night at 7:05 p.m. Evan Grills will start at San Manuel Stadium.
