Tampa Yankees News Release

TAMPA - Reymond Nunez belted two home runs and drove in four runs in a 3-for-4 night as the Tampa Yankees (32-28) defeated the Brevard County Manatees (29-29) 10-6 on Thursday night at George M. Steinbrenner Field.

Nunez, who entered the home stand with one home run as a Tampa Yankee this season, now has homered three times in the last two games. The 6'4, 210 pound first baseman hit a go-ahead solo shot in the third before crushing a two-out, three-run bomb in the fourth.

Brett Gerritse (5-7) worked in and out of trouble for a majority if his start. The righty limited the damage by stranding five men on base in the first four frames. Gerritse allowed four runs on six hits and four walks, striking out five in five and two-third innings for the win.

Brevard County opened the scoring in the second inning. Alfredo Rodriguez drew a leadoff walk and stole second before scoring on a double by Mike Garza.

Tampa responded in the third with back-to-back solo home runs by Ericson Leonora and Nunez. It was Leonora's first home run of the season with the T-Yanks.

A four-run fourth gave Gerritse a huge cushion. Aaron Judge and Mike Ford each singled to begin the frame. Judge then scored as Jose Rosario grounded into a fielder's choice, forcing Ford out at second. Rosario advanced to second as Nathan Orf's double-play attempt resulted in an errant throw into the Tampa dugout. One out later, Leonora walked and Nunez crushed his second home run of the game.

The Manatees got one run back in the fifth. With runners on the corners, Tyrone Taylor hit an RBI ground out to third.

Brevard County starter Jorge Lopez walked Eric Jagielo and Judge before departing in the fifth. One out later, Rosario singled to load the bases against reliever Jon Huizinga. Trent Garrison followed with a two-run double, giving Tampa an 8-2 lead.

Lopez (9-9) allowed eight runs on six hits in four innings, walking four while striking out five in the loss.

Consecutive singles by Victor Roache and Alfredo Rodriguez placed runners on the corners for the Manatees in the sixth. A sacrifice fly by Cameron Garfield drove in a run before Mike Garza reached with a single. One out later, RHP Caleb Cotham entered for Tampa and surrendered an RBI single to Nathan Orf.

Tampa would get both those runs back. Cito Culver and Judge each walked against Huizinga and Ford delivered a two-out RBI single in the sixth. Nunez doubled down the right field line in the seventh and scored on a single to center by Mark Payton.

Brevard County scored the final two runs of the game against LHP Ramon Benjamin. After dealing a perfect eighth, Benjamin allowed the first four batters to reach in the ninth. Orlando Arcia hit an RBI single and scored on a single by Michael Reed. Benjamin then retired the next three batters to preserve the 10-6 win.

Judge reached base four times, going 1-for-2 with two walks and two runs scored. Ford collected his second RBI as a Tampa Yankee, going 2-for-4. Rosario went 1-for-3 with a walk, an RBI and a run scored.

Up next, Yankees continue their final home stand of the season with a three-game set against the Dunedin Blue Jays. RHP Taylor Garrison (0-0, 2.37 ERA) will take the hill for Tampa as LHP Matt Boyd (5-2, 1.12 ERA) gets the start for the Blue Jays. First pitch set for 7:00 p.m.
