August 21, 2014 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Carolina Mudcats News Release

Zebulon, N.C. - The Frederick Keys used two pitchers and limited the Carolina Mudcats to two hits in a 5-0 win on Thursday night at Five County Stadium. The Keys (26-31, 58-66) salvage a win in the set. The two hits was the lowest output for the Mudcats (27-31, 56-69) this season.

Adam Plutko (3-9) shouldered his fourth consecutive loss despite a quality start. The right-hander yielded two runs on six hits across 6 1/3 innings with one walk and four strikeouts. The Mudcats have scored only one run over his last three starts.

Steven Brault (1-0) won his debut with Frederick after holding the Mudcats to one hit across six innings. He walked one and struck out a batter. Lex Rutledge tossed the final three innings for his fifth save.

The Keys opened the scoring in the second frame on a solo shot by Brenden Webb out to left. It was his 10th homer of the year. Frederick put two on in the third and scored their second run on a double play roller to second by Lucas Herbst.

Herbst sparked the deciding rally in the eighth with a one-out single. A double by Trey Mancini off reliever Clayton Cook and a walk to Tucker Nathans loaded the bases. Jason Esposito hit a sac-fly to center for a 3-0 lead and the Keys worked three straight bases on balls to plate the final two runs of the night.

The Mudcats embark on their final road trip of the 2014 regular season on Friday. The first of four against the Winston-Salem Dash from BB&T Ballpark is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Carolina returns home for the final seven games of the year with four against the Lynchburg Hillcats and three with the Dash.
