Connecticut Sun News Release

UNCASVILLE, Conn. (August 21, 2014) - The Connecticut Sun earned the No. 3 and No. 4 selections in the 2015 WNBA Draft Thursday following the WNBA Draft Lottery presented by State Farm.

The Seattle Storm finished with the No. 1 pick while the Tulsa Shock earned the No. 2 pick.

"The draft fell as it did and we are going to make the most out from the opportunity before us," Connecticut Sun Vice President and General Manager Chris Sienko said. "We will evaluate the draft class or look at options to trade the picks."

As a result of finishing 13-21 during the 2014 season, Connecticut entered the lottery with the third-best odds to win - a 17.8 percent chance. New York (15-19 last year) had a 10.4 percent chance. Connecticut owns New York's first round pick, and subsequent lottery spot, following a draft day trade in April that sent Tina Charles to New York. The Sun also received Kelsey Bone and Alyssa Thomas in that deal. The other lottery-eligible teams, Tulsa and Seattle - both 12-22 last season - each had a 35.9 percent chance at the top pick.

This marked the second-consecutive year that Connecticut has participated in the WNBA Draft Lottery and the third time in franchise history. The Sun won the 2014 WNBA Draft Lottery and used the No. 1 overall pick to select Chiney Ogwumike. The other time Connecticut participated in the WNBA Draft lottery was 2010, when it earned the third overall pick behind the Minnesota Lynx and Sacramento Monarchs. W hen Sacramento folded, Connecticut moved up to No. 2. It then traded Lindsay Whalen and that second pick to Minnesota for the No. 1 pick and Renee Montgomery. The Sun used that top pick to select Tina Charles.
