New York Boulders News Release

(POMONA, N.Y.) - Rockland Boulders starting pitcher Sean Bierman was signed by the Atlanta Braves organization on Thursday afternoon. The lefty will report to the High-A Lynchburg Hillcats and begin his stint back in affiliated ball after starting 2014 within the Chicago White Sox organization. He becomes the second Boulder to have his contract purchased this season, following Steve Nyisztor who is now with the Arizona Diamondbacks Single-A affiliate, the Hillsboro Hops.

One of the most productive pitchers in the Can-Am League, Bierman ends his time in Rockland with an 8-6 overall mark and a 2.44 earned run average. His ERA is tops in the league while the eight wins are second only to teammate Richard Salazar and Quebec's Shawn Sanford. A 6'1" southpaw, Bierman also led the Can-Am with four complete games, ranked second in innings pitched (114.1) and 10th in total strikeouts (63).

The Boulders representative in the 2014 American Association All-Star Game, Bierman pitched a perfect inning on July 29, helping the South All-Stars to a 7-0 win. Bierman began 2014 as a pitcher in the White Sox system, reaching as high as Advanced-A Winston-Salem before joining Rockland in May. This is the third franchise that will call the Kinnelon, N.J. native a farm-hand as he was also drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in 2012 before joining the White Sox farm system in 2014.

Rockland currently sits two games ahead of New Jersey for the top spot in the Can-Am League and is in the midst of their longest win streak of the season, six in a row. They visit Quebec for a five-game series, beginning with a doubleheader on Thursday.
