FCE Match Preview & Press Notes: vs Fort Lauderdale Strikers August 24, 2014

August 21, 2014 - North American Soccer League (NASL)
FC Edmonton News Release

EDMONTON, AB (August 21, 2014) - FC Edmonton (2-2-3) return home to Clarke Stadium on Sunday, August 24 to kick off against Fort Lauderdale Strikers (2-3-2) at 2:00 p.m. MT in a match presented by SMS Equipment. The Eddies host the Dog Days of Summer with the Edmonton Humane Society being the Featured Charity for the match.

Collecting yet another three points off Carolina RailHawks this weekend, FC Edmonton seem to have finally strung together some success on the pitch. With seven points from the last five games, FC Edmonton currently sit in a three-way tie for fifth place in the North American Soccer League (NASL) Fall Season standings. The team have already doubled their 2014 Spring Season points tally and still have 10 matches left to play.

This weekend's fixture against Fort Lauderdale will be an important tilt to have the Eddies move up in the standings with the potential to break into the top four Fall Season standings.

"We have another very difficult fixture against a team that has been very consistent so far at home and away from home," said FC Edmonton head coach Colin Miller. "We were poor against Fort Lauderdale last time they came to town. We've had a good run and we're looking to continue that this weekend at home against the Strikers."

The Fort Lauderdale Strikers extended their unbeaten streak to five after last weekend's 1-1 draw against Atlanta Silverbacks. Fafà Picault's seventh goal of the year canceled out Jaime Chavez' opener to earn the Strikers a vital draw.

Fans attending this weekend's Dog Days of Summer match will enjoy $2 hot dogs at the stadium as well as a halftime show from the Edmonton Humane Society Shelter Stars.

Tickets start at $10 for the match in the YMCA Family Fun Zone. These tickets can be purchased at all Edmonton YMCA locations. For other ticket inquiries, please call 780.700.2600 or visit fcedmonton.com.
