Delmarva Shorebirds News Release
Lexington, KY - The Delmarva Shorebirds dropped the series finale to the Lexington Legends by a final score of 14-6. Lexington scored ten unanswered runs to take a commanding lead en route to a blowout win in the rubber match.
The Shorebirds jumped out to a 4-0 lead against Legends' starter Luke Farrell. Creede Simpson lined a two-run single up the middle in the first inning. Chance Sisco lifted a sacrifice fly in the third inning, and then Gregory Lorenzo doubled home a run in the fourth.
One swing of the bat got Lexington back into the game. After an RBI single by Carlos Garcia to get the Legends on the board, Dex Kjerstad launched a three-run home run off Janser Severino to tie the game at 4-4.
Lexington rushed past Delmarva with three runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth. Delmarva made a pitching change with two on and two outs. Nik Nowottnick walked the first two batters, forcing in the go-ahead run. Alexis Rivera followed with a two-run single to make it 7-4 Legends.
Mauricio Ramos belted a two-run home run for Lexington as the offensive outburst continued. The Legends scored at least two runs in every frame after the fourth inning. Delmarva scored twice in the seventh, but the Shorebirds still fell well short of the Legends' production.
Luke Farrell earned the win for Lexington, his first victory since May 7th. Janser Severino dropped to 3-3 with the loss on Wednesday evening. Delmarva is now 63-66 on the season with 10 games left in the regular season.
Delmarva will return to action on Friday evening at home against the Asheville Tourists. Left-hander Bennett Parry (1-2, 2.60) will start for the Shorebirds against Tourists left-hander Kyle Freeland (1-0, 0.66). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium on Friday evening.
