Defense, Pitching Lift Chihuahuas 2-1

August 20, 2014 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
El Paso Chihuahuas News Release

El Paso second baseman Taylor Lindsey made a diving play to preserve a late lead, leave a runner on in scoring position and end the bottom of the eighth inning in the Chihuahuas 2-1 win in Oklahoma City Wednesday night. Michael Nix pitched scoreless eighth and ninth innings to pick up his first save in the Padres organization. Nix is the seventh different El Paso reliever to record a save this season.

Both Matt Wisler and Asher Wojciechowski pitched three shutout innings to begin the game before a Matt Duffy sacrifice fly broke the scoreless tie and gave the RedHawks a 1-0 advantage. The Chihuahuas tied the game a half inning later on Brian Bixler's RBI groundout. The go-ahead run scored on a costly error by Oklahoma City second baseman Joe Sclafani in the eighth inning, a frame that did not include any El Paso hits.

Wisler went seven innings and allowed only one earned run. In Wisler's last three starts he has combined to strike out 20 batters and walk only three. The Chihuahuas have won the last two games, taking back-to-back contests for the first time since August 8th-9th in Salt Lake.
