Battle's Inside-the-Parker Highlights Revs' Wild Win

The York Revolution closed out the regular season portion of this year's War of the Roses series with a wild 6-5 victory over the Lancaster Barnstormers on Wednesday night at Santander Stadium, highlighted by the first inside the park home run in club history by Tim Battle in the sixth. The Revs win the season series 13-7, and finish off a homestand on which they won five of six games overall. York now embarks on an eight-game road trip beginning on Thursday night in Camden.

The Revs drew first blood in Wednesday's contest, scoring twice in the bottom of the first inning. Sean Smith drew a one-out walk, and Eric Patterson followed with an RBI triple down the right field line, adding to his league record with his 16th triple of the year. Chad Tracy then ripped an RBI single to center that landed just in front of Blake Gailen's reaching attempt for a 2-0 lead.

Revs starter Scott Gorgen cruised through the first four innings, but after recording the first two outs in the fifth, allowed an infield single to Yusuke Kajimoto on a ball rocketed back at Gorgen, before Gailen launched a two-run homer to right in his first game back from Mexico, tying the score at 2-2.

The Revs answered in the sixth. Tracy reached on an error and Travis Garcia was hit by a pitch to put two runners on base. With one out, Battle nailed a line drive to center that stayed up on Gailen who broke in on the play, carrying past the center fielder and all the way to the fence, with Battle racing around the bases for a three-run inside-the-park home run, giving York a 5-2 lead.

Lancaster tied it at 5-5 in the seventh on a three-run home run to dead center by Cole Garner, his league-leading 22nd of the year.

The Revs responded right back as Patterson led off the home seventh with a bunt single, and scored as Tracy drove a triple to deep right-center for a 6-5 lead.

Beau Vaughan worked a scoreless eighth and Mark Hendrickson retired the side in order in the ninth for his second save, preserving the victory.

Edward Paredes (2-3) earned the win in relief for the Revs, recording all three outs in the seventh despite allowing Garner's home run. Gorgen was charged with four runs in six-plus innings, two of which scored after his exit, taking a no-decision.

Lancaster reliever Ross Peeples (4-2) took the loss, allowing the go-ahead run in the seventh.

Notes: York has won nine of its last 12 overall, reaching a season-high 18 games over .500 at 64-46. The Revs need just 16 wins in their final 30 games to set the club record for wins in a season. The Revs have won five consecutive one-run decisions, improving to 19-15 in one-run games this season. The Revs have won eight of their last 10 home games, and have won four times in their last nine home games by taking the lead in the seventh inning or later. The Revs took eight of the ten War of the Roses meetings played in York this season. Battle now has seven RBI in his last five games. The inside-the-park home run was also the first in Santander Stadium history.
