Dickson Stifles Claws; Power Win 5-1

CHARLESTON, WV - Wyatt Mathieson drove in two runs while Cody Dickson gave up one run and five hits over six innings as West Virignia topped the BlueClaws 5-1 on Wednesday night at Appalachian Power Park.

Dickson (6-9) earned his second win against the BlueClaws as the Power (29-29/49-77) topped Lakewood (22-36/49-78) in the first game of a two-game series (the series was scheduled for three games but Tuesday's game was cancelled due to unplayable field conditions).

West Virginia took the lead with two runs in the secon dinning. An RBI triple by Reese McGuire put them ahead 1-0 and Wyatt Mathieson followed two batters later with an RBI single to put the Power up 2-0. The Power had runners at first and second with nobody out in the inning but failed to score from there.

The Power did, however, add a run in the 4th inning with Mathieson driving home Erich Weiss, who tripled, to make it 3-0. The BlueClaws got their run in the 5th inning on an RBI single by Malquin Canelo. The BlueClaws left two on in the 5th inning and then threatened in the 6th inning. With runners on first and second, Dylan Cozens lined out to centerfield and Zach Green was doubled off second base to end the inning.

The Power added two runs in the 8th off Nick Rodesky for the final margin.

Lakewood starter Yoel Mecias (2-3) gave up three rusn on five hits in four innings and took the loss.

Willians Astudillo had two hits for Lakewood, his fourth straight multi-hit game. He is up to .335 on the season, third best in the South Atlantic League.

The series concludes on Thursday night. RHP Yacksel Rios (5-1, 3.53) throws for Lakewood against RHP Buddy Borden (7-7, 3.03).
