Winston-Salem Dash News Release

WINSTON-SALEM DASH (27-30, 57-69) vs. SALEM RED SOX (27-26, 60-61)

RHP Brandon Brennan (1-0, 3.00 ERA) vs. RHP Pat Light (5-5, 5.18 ERA)

7 p.m. - BB&T Ballpark (Winston-Salem, N.C.) Game #127 (Home Game #64)

DASH NIP RED SOX FOR CRUCIAL WIN Winston-Salem scored six runs in the second inning and held on for a 6-4 victory against the Salem Red Sox on Tuesday at BB&T Ballpark. In that second frame, Courtney Hawkins and Keon Barnum capped the scoring with back-to-back two-run knocks. This proved to be enough for starter Terance Marin and three relievers. Marin worked through six innings and allowed four runs on eight hits. Sean Hagan and Raul Fernandez each logged a hold via one scoreless frame, while Dave Putman worked around a bases loaded jam for his second save in High-A.

DOWN TO TWO With Tuesday's win, the Dash are now just two games behind Salem for the final spot in the Southern Division Championship Series. Myrtle Beach won the first half title, and the Pelicans remain atop the standings in half two. The Dash must finish better than both Salem and Carolina in order to return to the postseason for the fourth time in the six-season Dash era. Winston flipped the script on Tuesday, as Salem had won its previous eight games, while the Dash were 2-10 in their last 12 before the series opener.

SURVEYING THE SCHEDULE The Dash and Red Sox will continue their three-game set, which represents the final regular season clash between the two playoff hopefuls. With one more win in this series, the Dash would clinch a season series win over the Sox. Then, the Carolina Mudcats, who are just a half-game behind Winston-Salem in the current standings, come to the Triad for a four-game series before the Dash finish with a road trip to Myrtle Beach for four and Carolina for three.

ANOTHER PROMOTION After his strong start on Tuesday, right-hander Terance Marin earned a promotion to Double-A Birmingham. In his second stint with the Dash in 2014, Marin went 4-3 with a 3.76 ERA in 12 appearances (10 starts). He is heading to the Double-A level for the first time.

A FIRST FOR HAWKINS Dash outfielder Courtney Hawkins has rattled off three consecutive multi-RBI games for the first time in his professional career. In his last three games, Hawkins is 4-for-11 with nine RBIs. The Corpus Christi, Texas, native had only plated nine runs over his previous 28 games. As a result, Hawkins became the first Carolina Leaguer to surpass the 80-RBI total. He has driven in 81, eight more than former Myrtle Beach catcher Jorge Alfaro for the CL's lead.

WHAT A DIFFERENCE A YEAR MAKES Hawkins, who is one of three hitters to have remained with the Dash throughout the regular season, has been critical to Winston-Salem's playoff push. Last season, Hawkins limped to the finish line. He did not drive in a run over his final 16 games, stretching back to August 14. During this funk, Hawkins hit .100 (6-for-60) with 20 strikeouts. On the flip side, Hawkins currently boasts a six-game hitting streak.

RODON STRONG IN TRIPLE-A DEBUT Left-hander Carlos Rodon, the third overall pick in this year's MLB Draft, made his Triple-A debut on Tuesday night for the Charlotte Knights. He limited Gwinnett to one run on one hit in three innings, during which he whiffed three and walked three. The former NC State star made four appearances with the Dash before his jump to the International League. With Winston-Salem, Rodon surrendered three runs (two earned) on seven hits over nine and two-thirds innings, during which he punched out 15.

DASH DOTS Shortstop Cleuluis Rondon went 0-for-5 on Tuesday, snapping his season-long hitting streak of seven games, during which he hit .355 (11-for-31) with five RBIs and six runs scored...For the first time in his High-A career, Brandon Brennan will not face Lynchburg...He worked five innings against the Hillcats in each of his first three starts in the CL...The Dash received righty Adam Lopez from Low-A Kannapolis.
