Hometown Morris Delivers for Stars in DH Split

Huntsville, AL-Huntsville native Hunter Morris lifted his hometown Huntsville Stars to a 2-1 victory Tuesday night in game two of a doubleheader against the Jackson Generals at Joe Davis Stadium.

With Jackson already having won game one, and game two tied at 1-1 in extra innings, Morris came through with a clutch hit. With the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the eighth, Morris lined a game winning single over the right fielder Kevin Rivers head scoring Shea Vucinich for the game winning run.

With the win, the Stars earned a split in their doubleheader with Jackson. It was the Stars eighth win of the season in their final at bat.

Morris, led the Stars in game two with a 2-4 performance including the game winning hit as he was rushed by his teammates between first and second base.

Huntsville got a terrific starting pitching performance from RHP Jacob Barnes. Barnes, pitched six innings and only gave up two hits on one earned run. He struck out three as he took a no decision.

Greg Holle(3-2) earned the win out of the Stars bullpen. Holle, threw two scoreless innings and struck out one. Holle pitched a 1-2-3 eighth, setting the stage for the Stars heroics in the bottom of the inning.

In game one, the Generals pounced on Huntsville LHP Jed Bradley(5-7) hitting three homeruns, two against Bradley in a 6-2 win over the Stars.

Jackson third baseman D.J. Peterson hit a pair of two-run homeruns against Bradley. With the Generals already ahead 1-0, Peterson's first two-run homer in the top of the third made it 3-0.

Peterson then in his very next at bat in the fourth, clubbed a two-run homer again to put Jackson up 5-0.

Jabari Blash then hit the Generals third homerun of the game in the top of the fifth against Stars reliever Tommy Toledo. It was a solo shot that gave Jackson a 6-0 advantage.

The only runs the Stars scored were in the bottom of the sixth off Tyler Olson(8-7). Hector Gimenez hit a two-run homer to right center, his fifth of the season. It was also his third straight game with a homer.

Olson, who earned the win pitched 5.1 effective innings. He allowed seven hits on two runs.

Bradley, who suffered the loss went 3.2 innings and gave up seven hits on five runs. He also walked four and struck out two.

The Stars(27-31,73-55) lead Jackson(26-32,57-70) 2-1 in their five game series. The series continues Wednesday night with RHP Austin Ross(0-2, 3.72) on the mound for Huntsville. Jackson will send RHP Stephen Landazuri(6-4, 3.83) to the hill. The game can be heard with Steve Jarnicki starting at 6:15 CDT on 92.9 FM, 1450 AM and wtkiradio.com.
