Lancaster JetHawks News Release

LANCASTER, Calif. - Jon Kemmer's bat led the way as the JetHawks came from behind to beat the High Desert Mavericks, 8-7, on Tuesday night at The Hangar.

Kemmer blasted a three-run home run in the seventh inning to put Lancaster (73-55) ahead by one run. The JetHawks entered the inning down 7-4 and quickly loaded the bases on hits by Brett Phillips and Jack Mayfied and a Rio Ruiz walk. Tyler White brought home a run with a fielder's choice groundout before Kemmer blasted his 10th home run to centerfield.

Will Mathis (5-6) gave up the winning homer and took the loss for High Desert (61-67).

Kent Emanuel (8-4) shut the Mavericks down the rest of the way. The piggyback starter entered the game in the sixth inning and restored order. After the Mavericks put up 12 hits in the first five innings they managed just one the rest of the way.

Emanuel struck out seven, including a stretch of five in a row, over four scoreless frames and allowed just one hit while walking one batter.

High Desert jumped to an early lead with runs in each of the first four innings. Matt Heidenreich started and allowed six runs (five earned) on 10 hits in three innings of work. Reliver Patrick Christensen allowed one run in his two innings.

The JetHawks got on the board with a two-run home run by Roberto Peña in the second inning to tie the game, 2-2.

The Mavericks jumped out ahead with four runs in the third before Kemmer helped cut the lead in half. White walked with one out and Kemmer laced his first triple in the Cal League down the right field line to score the runner. Peña followed with a fly ball to bring Kemmer home.

The JetHawks snapped a four-game skid with the win and take on the Mavericks in the second game of the three-game series on Wednesday night at The Hangar. Vince Velasquez will toe the rubber to start against Lars Huijer. First pitch is 6:30 p.m.
