Vancouver Canadians News Release

(Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, B.C.) - Canadians pitcher LHP Jairo Labourt was electric over his six innings of work, striking out nine to help Vancouver to a series opening 2-0 victory over the Boise Hawks on Tuesday night. The win moves Vancouver to within a half game of top spot in the North Division.

The game's only runs of the night came in the bottom of the 6th inning when Boise reliever RHP Ryan Williams induced a pair of ground balls that befuddled infielders SS Bryant Flete and 3B Jesse Hodges putting runners at second and third base for the Canadians. With one out, Vancouver SS Franklin Barreto slapped a base hit that scored 3B Alexis Maldonado and LF Chris Carlson followed with a base hit that scored DH Tim Locastro to give the C's a 2-0 lead.

Four (4) Canadians pitchers combined in the Tuesday night shutout in front of a sold out Scotiabank Field crowd including LHP Jairo Labourt who picked up his 4th win of the summer. Labourt was dominant going six scoreless innings allowing seven hits while striking out nine. Relievers RHP Justin Shafer (1.2IP), LHP Michael Kraft (0.1IP) and closer RHP Phil Kish (1.0IP) combined to preserve the shutout that moved the Canadians within striking distance of the Tri-City Dust Devils who were idle on Tuesday.

Vancouver improves to 13-13 on the second half of the NWL season and move to 38-26 through 64 regular season games in 2014. The Canadians also move to 3-3 (.500) in head-to-head competition vs. Boise this summer.

Vancouver announced that the final four games of this home stand vs. Boise are now SOLD OUT. Tickets to both August 30th and 31st are also SOLD OUT marking September 1st as the last remaining game to have seats available.

The Canadians play game two of this five-game series on Wednesday, August 20th at 7:05pm with LHP Ryan Borucki getting the ball in search of Vancouver fourth win in the past five games.
