Normal CornBelters News Release

NORMAL, Ill. - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, won a franchise-record seventh consecutive game with a late rally to beat the Schaumburg Boomers 7-4 on Tuesday night at the Corn Crib.

The CornBelters struck first in the fourth inning with a one-out rally beginning with a walk to Santiago Chirino and a single by Mike Schwartz with both moving to second and third on the throw, followed by a Sam Judah base hit to plate both.

The Belters added an unearned run in the fifth inning that included the ejections of Boomers pitching coach T.J. Nall and manager Jamie Bennett over a disputed call at first base that allowed Schwartz to reach on an infield single. After moving to third base, Schwartz scored on an errant pickoff throw to first for a 3-0 lead.

The Boomers cut the deficit to 3-2 in the sixth on a two-run homer to right field by Alexi Colon. The Belters got one of the runs back in the bottom of the frame when Aaron Dudley drew a one-out walk, went to second on a wild pitch and scored on a base hit by Ozney Guillen to extend the lead to 4-2.

Schaumburg battled back in the seventh by taking advantage of a throwing error by Belters starter Cullen Babin on a comebacker on a potential double play ball plus a wild pitch allowed an RBI fielder's choice by Cameron Sherrer and a run-scoring single by Michael Valadez to tie the contest at 4-4.

The CornBelters took advantage of misplays to take the lead in the eighth inning. Judah walked to lead off followed by a one-out walk to Richard Lucas. Pinch-runner Jorge Chavarria and Lucas advanced to second and third on a wild pitch, and Chavarria scored on an error on a Guillen ground ball to the drawn-in infield. Lucas scored from third on a balk, and Guillen came home on a base hit by Jhiomar Veras for the final scoring.

Jason Postill (7-2) earned the win in relief while Eric Anderson pitched a perfect ninth inning for his third save. Clark Labitan (3-3) took the loss.

The Belters continue the series at the Corn Crib at 7 p.m. Wednesday as right-hander Bobby Shore (4-5, 4.33 ERA) starts on the mound for the hosts while the Boomers counter with righty Cal Bowling (6-7, 5.66).
