Omaha Storm Chasers August 19th Game Notes
August 19, 2014 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
LAST NIGHT'S WIN: Aaron Brooks became the first Omaha pitcher to ten wins (one of eleven PCL pitchers to reach that mark this season) as the Chasers used a five-run first inning to defeat the 51s 9-5. It was tied for their largest run total at home since they had 13 on June 17.
VIVA SWEEP VEGAS: Omaha is on the verge of the of their first home sweep of the season (have not won first three games of any home series this year), and their sixth all-time at Werner Park. The Chasers pulled off four sweeps in 2012 (including most recent home sweep, vs Round Rock on June 7-10, 2012) and once in 2011. Omaha has never swept a non-conference opponent at Werner Park (their one 2014 sweep came against a non-conference opponent at Fresno on June 13-15).
PEGUE-ROLLING: Carlos Peguero leads Triple-A with 10 homers in August, the most home runs he has ever had in any professional month. The last time Omaha had a player with 10 homers in a month was Kila Ka'aihue in July of 2010, and the last time Omaha had a player with 11 homers in a month was Cory Aldridge in August of 2009. Peguero has 25 homers this season, his second highest total in any of his ten pro seasons (had 31 homers for High-A High Desert in 2009).
LAMB CHOPS: John Lamb currently has the sixth lowest ERA in the PCL at 3.62, and has the sixth most strikeouts with 123 in 126.2 innings. Lamb needs just six more strikeouts to tie Mike Montgomery, who had 129 strikeouts in 2011, for the most in a single season since Omaha joined the PCL in 1998. Lamb's total is tied for third most in any Omaha PCL season, and ranks tied for ninth most overall in Omaha's 45 Triple-A seasons. Lamb currently owns the second lowest ERA in the PCL since May 1 at 3.23, trailing Oklahoma City's Nick Tropeano at 3.22 ERA.
HOME WIN STREAK: Omaha has tied their longest home win streak of 2014 at four games (May 12-13 vs New Orleans and May 23-24 vs Round Rock was the other streak). The last time the Chasers won five straight home games was June 5-10, 2012 vs Memphis and Round Rock. They have had only three win streaks of five or more games in Werner Park history: 14 games from April 7 - May 7, 2012 and six games from April 18 - 28, 2011 are the others.
JOHNNY MULTI-HITS: Johnny Giavotella leads Omaha with 41 multi-hit games on the season. It is just two multi-hit games less than his highest Triple-A total of 43 multi-hit games in 2011. Gio is seven hits shy of becoming the 7th player in team history to 500 hits.
NON-CONFERENCE AT WERNER: The Chasers wrapped up only their second non- conference series win in Werner Park history winning yesterday. The other was the second non-conference series ever at Werner Park, when they defeated the Tucson Padres 3-1 May 23-26, 2011. Omaha has split nine and lost five non-conference series (including two this season).
