Four-Run Eighth Catapults Suns to 6-5 Win over Wahoos

JACKSONVILLE, FL - A four-run eighth inning rally gave the Jacksonville Suns (34-23, 70-57) a thrilling come-from-behind 6-5 victory over the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (22-35, 53-74) on Monday night from Bragan Field. With the win, Jacksonville takes a 2-0 series lead.

Jay Rogers did not factor into the decision surrendering five runs (four earned) on ten hits with a walk and four strikeouts in his six-plus innings.

Collin Cargill (W, 4-1) earned the win for his second consecutive outing, retiring all five batters he faced with a couple of strikeouts in two hitless innings innings of work.

Nick Wittgren (SV, 18) locked down his 18th save of the year with a 1-2-3 top of the ninth inning, securing the Suns of their Monday night victory.

Ben Klimesh (BS, 1; L, 1-1) was dealt the loss for Pensacola after he allowed four runs (all earned) on three hits with a pair of walks and two strikeouts in his one inning of work.

After being shut out on Sunday, Pensacola wasted no time opening up the scoring with one run in the top of the first inning of Monday's ballgame. Yorman Rodriguez came in to score on Travis Mattair's two-out RBI double to give the Blue Wahoos an early 1-0 advantage after one half inning of play.

The Blue Wahoos added to their advantage with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth. Two runs scored on Travis Mattair's RBI fielder's choice, with the second run coming across on Austin Barnes' throwing error on the play. Pensacola held a 3-0 lead after four and a half innings in the books.

It took the Suns until the sixth inning to hop on the scoreboard, grabbing in the inning. Joe Benson's two-out RBI double cut Pensacola's lead to 3-1 with six innings complete.

Pensacola answered right back with in the top of the seventh. Yorman Rodriguez (HR, 6) launched a two-run homer to left to make it a 5-1 Blue Wahoos lead after six and a half innings.

The Suns drew closer in the bottom of the seventh, grabbing a run on Ryan Rieger's RBI single to cut it to a 5-2 Blue Wahoos lead after seven innings.

Jacksonville continued their late push and used scored four times with two outs in the bottom of the eighth to take the lead for good. Isaac Galloway's two-run single was followed up by Terrence Dayleg's go-ahead two-run double, which gave the Suns a 6-5 lead after eight innings of play.

Austin Nola and J.T. Realmuto each had multi-hit games in Monday night's victory.

With the win, the Suns have now won 19 of their 27 ballgames against the Blue Wahoos on the 2014 season.

The start of Monday's ballgame was delayed by one hour and four minutes due to rain that came through the Jacksonville area.

The Suns and Blue Wahoos will be back at it on Tuesday, with first pitch set for 6:05 p.m. ET. The Suns will start left-hander Chipper Smith (3-3, 4.02) while the Blue Wahoos will counter with right-hander Ben Lively (1-6, 3.54).
