Saint John Sea Dogs News Release

SAINT JOHN - The Saint John Sea Dogs have traded defenceman Alexander McQuaid to the Quebec Remparts as the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League's preseason trade period came to a close this morning.

Saint John sent McQuaid and a fifth-round pick in the 2015 QMJHL Entry Draft to the Quebec Remparts in exchange for defenceman Louis-Philip Fortin and fourth-round pick in the 2017 QMJHL Entry Draft.

McQuaid, 18, played 53 games with Saint John last year in his rookie campaign, posting three assists and 134 penalty minutes.

"This was very hard trade for us to make," said Sea Dogs General Manager Darrell Young. "Alex is one of the toughest guys in the league, and he's well respected by his team and teammates.

"He plays with a great deal of passion. This is an opportunity for him to play in the Memorial Cup."

Fortin, listed at 5'11", 198 lbs., was selected by the Remparts in the fifth round (87th) overall of the 2014 QMJHL Draft. The 16-year-old Sherbrooke, Quebec, native registered two goals and eight points in 41 games last season with the Magog Cantonniers of the Quebec Major Midget AAA Hockey League.

"Louis-Philip is a young defenceman who skates well, moves the puck well and has very good hockey sense," Young said. "Physically, he's been growing over the past year, and he's coming off a solid major midget season in Quebec.

"He gives us another 1998-born defender, and we're happy about that."

Saint John's next preseason game is Friday, August 22nd, at 7:30 p.m. against the Halifax Mooseheads. Tickets are on sale at the Harbour Station Box Office at a cost of $5 for season ticket holders and $9 (plus a $1 service charge) for the general public.

Season tickets are also on sale now at the Harbour Station Box Office and the Sea Dogs' office on the pedway level of Harbour Station. Season ticket holders can SAVE up to $170 on their seats when compared with single-game box office prices.
