Bowie Baysox News Release

Bowie, Md. - Baysox catcher David Freitas led off the top of the 12th inning with a solo home run to clinch a Baysox (64-63) 4-3 win and series sweep of Trenton (60-68) Sunday evening. It was the Baysox second walk-off win in the three game series and improved the Baysox record to 11-1 against Trenton this season.

The Baysox also beat Trenton 7-4 in walk-off fashion Friday night when David Adams hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning to break a 4-4 tie.

The three hour and 53 minute contest, which was the longest of the Baysox season, saw the Thunder tie the game 3-3 in the top of the seventh before four scoreless innings brought the game to the 12th. Both teams saw significant chances to win the game in regulation fall short as the Baysox loaded the bases with no outs in the eighth inning but came away empty as did the Thunder when they put runners on second and third with one out in the ninth inning.

K.D. Kang gave the Baysox a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning with a solo home run to right field against Trenton starter Joel De La Cruz.

Trenton tied the game in the top of the fifth inning against Baysox starter Eddie Gamboa. With one out, Casey Stevenson was hit by a pitch and Ali Castillo followed with a single to right field. With two outs, Ben Gamel walked to load the bases and Gary Sanchez singled to left field to plate Stevenson. Baysox left fielder Glynn Davis threw out Castillo at home trying to score from second base to keep the score tied 1-1.

Bowie retook the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning. Sharlon Schoop hit a lead off single to left field and moved to second base after a pickoff error by De La Cruz before scoring on a Niuman Romero double down the right field line. Buck Britton then brought Romero home with a single to right field to give the Baysox a 3-1 lead.

The Thunder came right back to tie the game again in the top of the seventh inning. Castillo and Mason Williams drew back-to-back two out walks and Ben Gamel then plated Castillo with a double to left field. Matt Bischoff then replaced Gamboa on the mound and walked Sanchez to load the bases before Greg Bird singled to right field to bring home Williams and tie the game 3-3. Right fielder Ronald Bermudez threw out Gamel trying to score from second on the play to keep the score tied.

Freitas won the game for the Baysox with a solo shot to left field to lead off the bottom of the 12th inning against Trenton reliever Cesar Cabral.

Gamboa threw six and two-thirds innings and allowed three runs on five hits while striking out five and walking four in the no decision. Baysox reliever Matt Bischoff threw one and one-third scoreless innings, allowing one hit and walking two batters. Reliever Mychal Givens threw two scoreless innings for the Baysox, walking one and striking out three. Reliever Marcel Prado picked up the win, throwing two scoreless innings to end the game and walking three batters while striking out two.

Cabral took the loss for Trenton, facing just one batter in the bottom of the 12th and surrendering a home run.

After an off day Monday, LHP Nick Additon (0-1, 4.50) takes the mound for the Baysox Tuesday as the team opens a three-game home series against the Reading Fightin Phils. He will be opposed by LHP Aaron Nola (1-0, 4.00).

The Baysox are home through Wednesday, Aug. 21 for a seven-day, six-game homestand against the Trenton Thunder and Reading Fightin Phils. Promotional highlights include Dollar Dog Night Tuesday, Aug. 19 at 6:35 p.m. and Legends of Wrestling Night with Kurt Angle Wednesday, Aug. 20 at 6:35 p.m.
