TRAVERSE CITY, MI - Scott Vachon pitched a career-high seven innings, but Traverse City's offense was quieted once again by the Lake Erie pitching staff as the Crushers beat the Beach Bums 3-1 on Sunday night at Wuerfel Park.
Vachon (2-2) gave up a first inning run on a ground rule double by Andrew Davis, but worked out of a two-out, bases-loaded jam with a flyout. The tie was short-lived though as Vincent Mejia jacked a solo homer to lead off the fourth inning, giving the Crushers the lead back at 2-1. An inning later, Craig Hertler reached on an error and ended up scoring on a Davis sacrifice fly to up the advantage to 3-1.
Vachon settled down to retire the next seven batters and lasted seven innings in his first quality start as a Beach Bum. He allowed three runs, two earned, on seven hits with three strikeouts and a walk.
Zac Treece started for the Crushers and held the Beach Bums at bay through a majority of his outing. After the run scored in the third, he allowed just two base runners in the rest of his outing that lasted eight innings. Treece (6-3) picked up the win by allowing a run on four hits with four K's.
