Charleston Dirty Birds News Release

(Lexington, KY- August 17, 2014)- The West Virginia Power were tripped 8-1 by the Lexington Legends on Sunday at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. Lexington gained the lead on a pair of two-run home runs early and earned a series split with West Virginia.

After rain delayed the start of the game by one hour, West Virginia took a 1-0 lead of Lexington starter Alec Mills in the top of the second. Edwin Espinal scored on a Wyatt Mathisen ground out to stake Power starter Felipe Gonzalez the lead.

The advantage was short-lived, however, as the Legends' Elier Hernandez hit a two-run home run off Gonzalez in the bottom of the second. Mauricio Ramos added a two-run home run of his own one inning latter for a 4-1 Lexington lead.

The Legends added one run in the fifth, two in the sixth and one more in the seventh to close the scoring at 8-1.

Gonzalez (2-4) surrendered the first four runs and took the loss while the Power bullpen allowed the rest. Mills (2-1) held West Virginia to their lone run on five hits over five innings. Kevin Perez worked the final four innings without allowing a run on two hits while notching his third save. The Power and Legends split the four game series at two wins apiece.

West Virginia is idle on Monday and opens a six-game homestand on Tuesday night. The Power will host Lakewood and Kannapolis during the second to last homestand of the season. First pitch Tuesday against the BlueClaws is slated for 7:05 pm.
