Club Deportivo Chivas USA News Release

CARSON, Calif. - Chivas USA clinched the season series over Vancouver Whitecaps FC with their scoreless draw Saturday night at the StubHub Center. The shutout marked Red-and-White goalkeeper Dan Kennedy's fourth clean sheet of the season and was also highlighted by the debut of Ecuadorian striker Felix Borja in the starting lineup.

The Rojiblancos generated promising looks in their attacking third and tested Vancouver keeper David Ousted early with crosses into the box from both sides. In the 13th minute, midfielder Marco Delgado lofted a ball into the box that was poorly headed away by the visiting side's defense and gathered by Erick Torres. The forward attempted a quick follow-up shot but the 'Caps closed in on the ball to prevent Torres from getting off a clean strike.

Chivas also began getting into range and testing Ousted from distance with strikes from Torres and the newly acquired Borja in the 19th and 32nd minute, respectively. Torres' low liner from outside the right corner of the box was collected by the netminder, while Borja's attempt from the left of the arc sailed over the crossbar.

Looking to get on the front foot of the match, the Rojiblancos went to their bench early in the second half. Midfielder Mauro Rosales - who came on after the break - sent in a corner kick from the right side in the 55th minute that was momentarily cleared away. The rebound wound up at the feet of defender Tony Lochhead for a follow-up shot, but was high of the crossbar.

In the 60th minute, the Goats' offense got deep into Vancouver territory when right back Akira Kaji whipped in a diagonal cross into the box intended for Torres. The striker got on the end of the entry and headed the ball on frame near the penalty spot, but Ousted was able to contain the threat.

The Red-and-White continued to have the better run of play into the second part of the half and knock on the goal's door. In the 74th minute, Torres laid off a pass to Rosales on his right from behind the arc and the winger worked the ball toward the end line to send his short cross into the six-yard box. The ball was then deflected back to Torres who fired in traffic wide of the right post.

Despite peppering the opponent's goal in the final moments of the conference clash, the Rebaño Angelino would have to settle for a point, as the result remained locked in a scoreless stalemate.

Chivas USA will now begin preparations for their cross-country flight to face Eastern Conference side New England Revolution next Saturday at Gillette Stadium. The match will mark the lone meeting of the regular season between the clubs and will be televised on KDOC-TV LA56 and Time Warner Cable Deportes beginning at 4:30 p.m. (PT). The action can also be heard live on ESPN Deportes Radio KWKW 1330 AM. For more information follow the club on Twitter and Facebook.
