Denver Outlaws and Rochester Rattlers to Face off in 2014 MLL Chmapionship

August 16, 2014 - Major League Lacrosse (MLL) News Release

BOSTON - The stage is set for the 2014 MLL Championship Game next Saturday, August 23 at 7 p.m. at Fifth Third Bank Stadium in Kennesaw, Ga. In a rematch of the 2008 Championship Game, the Rochester Rattlers and the Denver Outlaws will compete for the coveted Steinfeld Trophy. Tickets for the game start at only $20 and can be found HERE.

The Rattlers reached the final after defeating the Ohio Machine 15-11 in the first semifinal on Saturday afternoon. Veteran attackman Kevin Leveille scored six goals leading the Rattlers to victory.

"It was a great team run," said Brine Coach of the Year Tim Soudan. "We started slow but then gathered our thoughts and were able to bring home the win. I am very proud of this group. To have the opportunity to play against the Outlaws in the Championship is an honor and the guys are excited."

The Outlaws defeated the New York Lizards 14-13, in a tightly contested game Saturday, to earn their fifth trip to the Championship Game. John Grant Jr. continued his amazing season contributing four goals and three assists in the game.

"The goal from the beginning of training camp was to get ourselves into a position to win the Championship," said Outlaws head coach B.J. O'Hara. "We got ourselves there, we still have some work to do, but we're awfully excited to go to Georgia and compete for the Championship."

The Outlaws and Rattlers have met a total of 10 times between regular season and playoffs with the record being tied 5-5. The only time they met in the playoffs was in the 2008 Championship Game in which the Rattlers, who were led by O'Hara, emerged victorious with a 16-6 final score. The game was also the first championship win for Grant, Jr., who went on to win three more, in 2009 with the Toronto Nationals and in 2012 and 2013 with the Chesapeake Bayhawks, ultimately earning Championship MVP last year.

The MLL Championship Game will face off at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast live on CBS Sports Network and in 175 U.S. territories including U.S. military installations, U.S. embassies and U.S. consulates, via the American Forces Network.
