Grizzlies Take Down Boomers

SAUGET, Ill. - Gateway starting pitcher Tucker Jensen fired six strong innings for his eighth win of the season and the Grizzlies edged the Schaumburg Boomers 2-1 Saturday night at GCS Ballpark.

A crowd of 4,237 saw Jensen (8-3) allow just one run on seven hits in six innings. The 25-year-old right-hander picked up six strikeouts to help the Grizzlies snap a four-game losing streak.

Gateway (46-34) received RBI singles from Madison Beaird in the second inning and Michael Johnson in the fifth inning.

Justin Vasquez provided the only offense for the Boomers (47-33) with a run-scoring single in the fifth inning.

Andrew Aizenstadt, Brett Zawacki and Richard Barrett combined to pitch three scoreless innings of relief.

Barrett notched his 18th save of the season, which is a new single-season high for him.

The Grizzlies conclude their three-game series with the Boomers Sunday night at GCS Ballpark. Right-hander Tyler Thompson (3-2) will start for the Grizzlies. First pitch is set for 6:05.
