Panthers/Red Sox Winners on Friday Night

Jeff Pietraszko's sacrifice fly in the 10th inning scored Tanner Nivins with the winning run as the Kitchener Panthers took a 3-2 series lead with a 4-3 win on Friday night in London in one of two IBL semi-final series games for the Dominico Trophy. Game six is set for Saturday afternoon at 4 pm in Kitchener.

The Panthers tied the game 3-3 in the sixth inning when Darnell Duckett and Mike Glinka singled with Duckett scoring on a wild pitch and Nivins driving in Glinka with the tying run. The Majors had jumped out to a 3-1 lead with two runs in the fourth and a single tally in the fifth. The Panthers scored their first run in the fourth when Nivins reached base on an error and eventually scored on a wild pitch.

Glinka and Nivins each had two hits for the Panthers who only managed five hits in the game. Paul Young had three hits for the Majors while Chris Dennis added two including an RBI double in the fifth for the Majors' third run.

Kitchener starter Mike Schnurr went six innings, allowing all three London runs on eight hits and three walks with no strikeouts. Reliever Russell Luxton (1-0) picked up the win, pitching four innings and shutting down the Majors on three hits and two strikeouts.

Carlos Martinez started for the Majors and went nine innings, allowing three runs, only two were earned, on four hits, five walks and 12 strikeouts. Reliever Josh Palmer (0-1) took the loss when he gave up a hit and a walk in the 10th for the winning run.

Brantford 2 at Barrie 1

The Brantford Red Sox took a 2-1 series lead with a 2-1 win in Barrie on Friday night with game four set for Brantford on Saturday night.

Right fielder Ben Bostick's sacrifice fly in the fifth inning scored Wayne Forman with the winning run as the Sox broke a 1-1 tie to take the third game. Forman had singled to lead off the fifth and advanced to second on Chris Stewart's sacrifice bunt and to third on a wild pitch by Barrie starter Adam Rowe.

Barrie had tied the game in third inning on a single by Jonathan Fernandez, scoring Jeremy Walker from second base. Walker had led off with a single and advanced to second on Branfy Arias' groundout. Brantford had opened the scoring in the second when Lee Delfino doubled and scored on an error by Arias.

Winning pitcher Jamie Richmond (3-0) picked up his second win of the series, allowing only eight hits on two walks and a strikeout. Losing pitcher Rowe (0-1) fared better as he also allowed eight hits but struckout 10 with no bases on balls.

Nick Weglarz led Brantford with three hits while Bostick also had two hits. Jordan Castaldo and Walker each had two hits for Barrie.
