Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Rancho Cucamonga, CA - The Quakes couldn't hold onto a five-run ninth-inning lead on Friday night, falling 10-8 to the Lake Elsinore Storm in 10 innings at LoanMart Field. The Quakes got a great start from Luis Chirins and eight runs from their offense, but Lake Elsinore charged back against the Rancho bullpen.

Rancho Cucamonga (28-26, 60-64) scored five runs in the first inning to take an early edge. With the bases loaded and no one out, Chris Jacobs was hit by a Matthew Shepherd pitch and Adam Law crossed home plate to put the Quakes on the board. Aaron Miller followed with a two-run double to left-center field. Two batters later, Pratt Maynard singled in a pair and the Quakes had a 5-0 lead at the end of an inning.

The Quakes also got a fantastic start from Luis Chirinos. The righty from Venezuela, who had pitched seven innings across three prior appearances, went seven innings on Friday while surrendering three runs on six hits. He struck out a season-high 10 batters without issuing a walk.

Rancho's offense, which had scored more than four just twice in August coming into the game, added three runs after their big first inning. The Quakes scored twice in the fifth, and Pratt Maynard gave Rancho an 8-3 lead with his second homer of the year in the eighth inning. Maynard reached base three times and drove in three runs on the night.

Down by five, Lake Elsinore (27-27, 67-57) stormed back in the ninth inning to tie the game. Dan Tillman was taken out after giving up two runs on three hits. With an 8-5 lead and the tying run at the plate, Rob Rogers (2-7, 4.58) struck out Albert Martinez to put Rancho one out away from a third-straight win. It was not meant to be, as Benji Gonzalez launched a game-tying three-run homer to right field.

The Quakes went down quietly in the bottom-half, sending the game to extras at LoanMart Field for a third-straight night. In the 10th, Rogers gave up an RBI triple to Luis Domoromo and an RBI double to Duanel Jones. Lake Elsinore took a 10-8 behind seven-straight runs.

Brandon Alger (4-3, 2.83) shut down the Quakes in the 10th, giving up a leadoff single before retiring the next three hitters. He struck out four over two innings to earn the victory.

With the loss, the Quakes fell to 9-6 in extra-inning games and 2-9 against Lake Elsinore at LoanMart Field. Despite the defeat, Rancho remains in a first-place tie with Lancaster in the South Division.

The four-game series with the Storm continues on Saturday night. Lefty Tom Windle (10-7, 4.34) gets the ball for Rancho against Lake Elsinore righty Colin Rea (10-6, 3.79). First pitch from LoanMart Field is at 7:05 pm and the game will be broadcast live on Fox Sports AM 1350 starting with the LoanMart Pregame Report at 6:50 pm.

Fans will enjoy a postgame Fireworks Spectacular on Saturday night thanks to First 5 San Bernardino!
