Future Steelheads: Dustin Burr

August 15, 2014 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Mississauga Steelheads News Release

With the 205th pick in the 2014 OHL Priority Selection, the Mississauga Steelheads continued to add to their depth at centre by selecting Dustin Burr as one of the newest members of the team.

A native of Caledonia, Ontario, Dustin became the fourth centre to be selected by the Steelheads at this year's Priority Selection behind Michael McLeod, Luke Kutkevicius and Brendan Harrogate. He spent this past season playing his minor hockey as a member of the Brantford 99ers in the Minor Hockey Alliance of Ontario.

Dustin played in 31 regular season games for the 99ers, where he recorded 9 goals and 8 assists. He also participated in the 99ers' 14 playoff games where he added an additional 2 goals and 4 assists.

In his time as a member of the 99ers Dustin demonstrated his ability to put the puck in the back of the net, while also setting up opportunities for his fellow teammates.

His ability to create offensive opportunities combined with his size is something that the Steelheads' coaching staff has been looking for in order to improve the team's offensive numbers from previous seasons.

Dustin's selection by the Steelheads was a big moment for him and his family, but it was also part of a bigger moment for minor hockey in the greater Hamilton area. Dustin was part of a draft class that saw 22 local players take the next steps in their hockey careers by being selected by an OHL team.

The addition of Dustin to the Steelheads system brings more team depth at the centre position. Once the players step on to the ice to kick off training camp in just under 2 weeks, he will look to stand out in front of Head Coach James Boyd and the rest of the Steelheads staff in hopes of cracking the roster for the upcoming season.
