THE LEAD OFF: West Virginia dropped the series opener at Lexington on Thursday evening by a 2-1 final. The Power took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on a solo home run by JaCoby Jones, but managed just one more hit during the remainder of the game. Buddy Borden silenced the Legends over five scoreless innings, striking out eight. In the sixth, Frank Schwindel doubled off Power reliever Isaac Sanchez, plating Dom Taylor and Kenny Diekroeger for a 2-1 lead that Lexington would not relinquish. Jake Junis tossed five scoreless relief innings for the win and Tim Hill worked a perfect ninth for the save. A Reese McGuire walk provided West Virginia's only other base runner.

THREE TO TIE: JaCoby Jones home run on Thursday was hits 21st of the season and put the shortstop three behind Stephen Chapman's Power franchise record of 24, set during the 2007 season. Jones has hit 16 of his home runs on the road and just five at home. West Virginia has six road games remaining of their 16 contests left this season. Jones also sits three behind Hickory's Travis Demeritte for the SAL lead.

RIVALRY RENEWED: The Power have played Lexington more than any other opponent during their nine previous seasons. The cross-division rivals are only two-and-a-half hours apart along I-64 and have played 187 times since the start of the 2005 season. West Virginia leads the all-time series 94-93, though has only won four times in 13 games this season with six left to go against Lexington in 2014.

A DIFFERENT HALF: Jared Lakind allowed 11 runs, ten earned, over 12 and two-third innings of work during the first half of the season. Pittsburgh transferred the southpaw back to Jamestown to start the second half of the 2014 season, but promoted him back to West Virginia on July 23. Since rejoining the Power, Lakind has not allowed a run on six hits over eight complete innings.

AUGUST RUSH: Power right-hander Buddy Borden was named South Atlantic League Pitcher-of-the-Week on Monday afternoon. Borden is 2-0 in three August starts with a 0.50 earned run average, having allowed just one run on seven hits over 18.0 innings pitched. It marks the second time Borden has claimed the award in 2014.

HONORS ROLL IN: Austin Meadows was tabbed as the South Atlantic League's Player-of-the-Week on Monday afternoon. Meadows joins Borden for the weekly honor after posting a .480 average over the week with four doubles, two home runs and seven runs batted in.

DEFEND THIS HOUSE: With a doubleheader sweep of August on Wednesday night, West Virginia won back-to-back games at home for the first time since June 27 and 28 against the Lakewood BlueClaws. It was also just the third time in 2014 the Power have won consecutive games at Appalachian Power Park and West Virginia's third home series victory.

POWER PROMO UPDATE- AUGUST 23: The Power battle the Kannapolis Intimidators on Saturday, August 23 at Appalachian Power Park on for Back-to-School Night. Backpacks will be given away to the first 1,000 fans. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm and the game and giveaway are presented by Columbia Pipeline Group and 98.7 The Beat.

POWER POINTS: West Virginia is now 18-27 in one-run games. The Power are also 7-12 in two-run finals and 3-13 in games decided by three... West Virginia has surrendered 84 runs in the first inning this season and 82 runs in the sixth, accounting for 29 percent of the teams total runs allowed this season... The Power have been held to one run in 15 different games and have lost all 15... Dovydas Neverauskas is West Virginia's entry in MiLB.com's annual Moniker Madness, an online poll choosing the best name in Minor League Baseball.

AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Pittsburgh dropped a 5-2 decision to the Tigers in Detroit. Max Scherzer struck out 14 Buccos to help the Tigers split the four game series... Indianapolis was bested by Toledo 10-6. Tony Sanchez hit his ninth home run in the loss... Altoona lost 4-3 to Trenton... Bradenton split a doubleheader with Jupiter, losing 4-3 in 14 innings and taking game two 3-2. Walker Gourley took the loss in game one while Shane Carle earned the game two victory... Jamestown swept a twinbill with Auburn, winning 3-1 and 4-3.
