Stingrays Pick up Scoring Punch with Forward Cody Sylvester

North Charleston, S.C. - The South Carolina Stingrays, celebrating 23 seasons of hockey in the Lowcountry, have agreed to terms with forward Cody Sylvester, Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Spencer Carbery announced today.

Sylvester, 22, tied for third among ECHL rookies last season with 24 goals and stood 17 among first-year players with 44 points in 49 contests with the Wheeling Nailers. The two-time ECHL Player of the Week Award recipient also appeared in 17 games with the Nailers' American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, adding two goals.

"We are excited," said Carbery. "I went after him last year and when he became available this summer, he was at the top of the list. He had a really good year last year and was one of the better rookies in the league."

Prior to turning pro, Sylvester skated five seasons of junior hockey with the Calgary Hitmen of the Western Hockey League (WHL) totaling 229 points (97 goals, 132 assists) in 315 games. In 2012-13, the Kelowna, British Columbia, native tied for ninth in the league with 41 points, 10 with 90 points and claimed the WHL Humanitarian of the Year Doug Wickenheiser Trophy.

"I've only heard good things about the organization, team and the city," mentioned Sylvester. "I had a pretty good rookie season, but that is in the past now. I'm going to come into camp and work my hardest and play the best I can."
