Revs Drop Sloppy Decision On Rain Soaked Night In Camden

The York Revolution committed an uncharacteristic three errors in the bottom of the eighth inning, as the Camden Riversharks wrestled away a 5-3 victory on Thursday night at Campbell's Field. The Revs and Sharks split their rain-shortened two-game set, as the Revs return home to open a six-game homestand on Friday night.

Camden scored the game's first run on a sacrifice fly by Eric Perez in the bottom of the second, as they held a 1-0 lead through the third inning when a deluge hit Campbell's Field, delaying the game by an hour and 31 minutes.

York tied the game after the delay on a two-out error in the fourth by former Revs infielder Brandon Chaves, evening things at 1-1.

Camden went back in front on an infield single by Yasser Gomez, taking a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning.

The Revs went back ahead two innings later at 3-2, as Ofilio Castro chopped an RBI single into left to tie the score, with a throwing error by catcher Jose Morales bringing home the go-ahead run.

The lead remained intact until the eighth, when the Riversharks took advantage of three York errors to score three times. Jose Julio-Ruiz led off the inning with a single to left-center, extending his hitting streak to eight consecutive games. Reliever Stephen Penney was then charged with the first error as Brian Van Kirk reached on a swinging bunt that was fumbled. Jose Morales followed with a sacrifice bunt attempt, but Penney's throw to first base sailed wide, resulting in another error as the bases were loaded with no outs. Mike Albaladejo was then hit by a pitch to force in the tying run, knotting the score at 3-3. Pinch-hitter Brett Bonvechio, Camden's hitting coach who was activated earlier in the day to add depth to a depleted bench, blooped a pop up over a drawn-in infield, bringing home the go-ahead run. Another run would score on a throwing error by first baseman Chad Tracy, attempting to record a force out at second base.

The outburst ended club record scoreless streaks of 21 appearances and 20.2 innings for Penney (3-2), who allowed his first runs since June 15, almost exactly two months earlier.

The Revs fell to 51-4 when leading after seven innings, suffering a rare late-inning hiccup.

Camden reliever Cole Kimball (2-1) earned the win with a scoreless eighth, while Matt Gorgen picked up his 16th save in the ninth.

Revs starter Logan Williamson was denied a chance at the win, but allowed just two runs and survived the lengthy rain delay to work five innings.

The Revs return home to host the Bridgeport Bluefish on Friday at 6:30 p.m., featuring a performance by the ZOOperstars! presented by Penn-Mar Human Services. York righty Scott Gorgen (4-7, 5.98) will face Bridgeport lefty Hunter Jones (5-9, 4.99).
