Jupiter Hammerheads News Release

JUPITER, FL - After five hours and 50 minutes and 21 innings of baseball, the Hammerheads earned a split of the doubleheader with Bradenton on Thursday.

The teams were scheduled to play two seven-inning games but the first tilt of the twin bill didn't go exactly as planned. Luckily for the Sharks the game one 14-inning marathon ended up in a 4-3 victory.

The Marauders jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the contest before the Hammerheads rallied for a three spot in the sixth inning when Blake Barber hit a two-run home run and Noah Perio scored on a wild pitch.

The score would remain knotted at three for eight more innings until Jupiter finally broke through in the bottom of the 14th. At that point of the game the Marauders were forced to bring a position player in to pitch as the starting right fielder Walker Gourley made his fourth appearance on the mound this year.

Matt Juengel would greet him to the game by crushing a triple off the wall in left-center. After a strikeout, Juan Avila hit a grounder that hit off of the glove of the second baseman as Juengel scored and the Hammerheads picked up their fifth walk-off win of the season.

In game two, Bradenton took a 1-0 lead in the third but the Sharks quickly tied things when Luis Sanz hit a sac fly to plate Jesus Solorzano who had reached on an infield single.

The Hammerheads would take the lead when Juengel reached on a one-out walk and scored when Barber hit a double into the gap in left.

In the sixth an error by Noah Perio would end up costing Jupiter as Max Moroff reached when the Jupiter second baseman bobbled the ball on a grounder. Moroff would later score to tie the game on a double by Jose Osuna.

Jinn-De Jhang would give the Marauders the lead when he pulled a double down the left field line to make it 3-2.

The Hammerheads would get runners into scoring position in both the sixth and the seventh but could not rally to tie the game.

Jake Esch took a tough luck loss for the Hammerheads although he pitched all seven innings which was huge after the Sharks used four pitchers out of the bullpen in game one. Esch allowed just one unearned run on four hits. He struck out six and walked two.

With the doubleheader split the Marauders ended up winning the season-series 13-5.

Jupiter will welcome Charlotte to town for a three-game series beginning on Friday.
