Danville Otterbots News Release

DANVILLE, VA - Danville went down to Burlington for game three of a series with their Appalachian League East rival after winning the first two in a suspended doubleheader. Danville had no issues at Burlington Athletic Stadium and won game three by the score of 10-1.

Danville's stellar performance was topped by 2014 3rd round pick Max Povse, who went a career long seven innings in another great start for the tall right hander. Previously Povse had gone a high of six innings on a limited bases after having thrown a full college season at UNCG, but the right hander has been more than effective since joining the rotation. Thursday night Povse did not allow a run for the second time in his last three starts, previously going five shutout innings on August 3rd against Princeton. Povse only allowed one hit and one walk while striking out five Royals in his seven shutout frames in Burlington.

Tanner Murphy had himself a night in the batter's box for the D-Braves. Murphy, renowned for his defensive work behind the plate at catcher, hit his fourth home run of the season. Murphy's two run shot in the third inning put Danville up 3-0, and tied Murphy with Matt Tellor for the team lead in home runs on the season. Murphy finished the game 3-4 with the homer and two RBI, and two walks. The D-Braves catcher has seen his average hover around the Mendoza-line for a large portion of the year, but his work at the plate tonight brings his average up to a respectable .248 for the season.

Justin Black also continued his steady work at the dish tonight, driving in 4 runs of his own. Black went 4-5 at the plate on the evening, with a pair of two-RBI doubles. The speedy outfielder also scored two runs on the evening for the D-Braves. Black is another guy who, over the past few games, raised his average considerably. Black was hanging around a .270 batting average for a large portion of the season, but recently his average has climbed to a current .301 clip.

The Danville Braves (31-22) will return home to American Legion Post 325 field tomorrow evening for another contest with the Burlington Royals (22-31) in the fourth game of a five game series, with a first pitch scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
