Victoria Royals News Release
Victoria, BC - The Victoria Royals would like to congratulate forward Axel Blomqvist who has been named to Team Sweden's Under-20 roster for their upcoming Four Nations tournament in Jönköping, Sweden from August 29-31.
The tournament will feature under-20 teams from Sweden, Russia, Finland and Czech Republic as Blomqvist looks to take a step towards earning a spot on Team Sweden at the 2015 IIHF World Junior Championship. Blomqvist also competed for Team Sweden at USA Hockey's 2014 National Junior Evaluation Camp earlier this month where he picked up one goal in four games played.
The Osby, Sweden native recently completed his first season with Victoria in which he collected 43 points (16g-27a) and 14 minutes in penalties in 46 games. Blomqvist, who was acquired last season from the Lethbridge Hurricanes, has appeared in 124 career WHL games and notched 89 points (31g-58a) along with 90 penalty minutes.
The 6-6, 212 lb Blomqvist went undrafted through the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, but attended the Winnipeg Jets' 2013 Rookie and Main Camps as a free agent and was subsequently signed to a three-year entry level contract by the club.
