Chicago Bandits News Release

ROSEMONT, Ill. - It was the defense that won the game for the Chicago Bandits tonight as they shutout the Akron Racers 2-0 on Wednesday night.

Andi Williamson started in the circle for the Bandits, against Lisa Norris for Akron, but was pulled after only two innings. Estela Pinon replaced Williamson for the third inning.

Holding on to a 1-0 lead in the third, after Amber Patton tagged up to score for the Bandits back in the first, the Racers loaded the bases with no outs in the inning. A line drive catch by Tammy Williams, who's defense was phenomenal all game long, caught the runner at second who was tagged out and a quick throw over to first base completed the unbelievable 6-4-3 triple play to end the inning.

The Bandits found themselves in yet another bass loaded situation in the next inning. Williams flashed her glove, making a diving catch on a Kelley Montalvo line drive for the first out of the inning while Ashley Thomas was thrown out at home on a fielder's choice with relief pitcher Sara Moulton striking out the final Racers batter of the inning to send the game to the fifth.

The Bandits added their second and final run of the night in the fifth off a sac fly by Kristen Butler that scored Patton again.

Moulton, who replaced Pinon, was credited with the win. In her two innings pitched, she allowed just two hits with one strikeout. Kirsten Verdun came into the circle for the top of the seventh and was credited with the save.

Lisa Norris suffered the loss for the Racers, pitching all six innings. She gave up two runs on four hits with three strikeouts.
