WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Sacramento River Cats (70-54) took down the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (49-75) by a score of 3-1 on Toyota Family Value Tuesday at Raley Field.

In his first start with the River Cats, right-hander Angel Castro (9-6, 3.84 ERA) got some early run support from his new teammates. With a single to center field in the bottom of the first inning, Cats right fielder Nick Buss extended his hitting-streak to 18 games. Buss then stole second base and came around to score the game's first run on an RBI-single by shortstop Andy Parrino.

Sacramento made it a 2-0 game in the bottom of the second when catcher Luis Martinez singled off Colorado Springs starter Jair Jurrjens (0-3, 3.30 ERA) to score third baseman Jose Martinez.

Colorado Springs got itself on the board in the top of the fourth inning after loading the bases with nobody out. Center fielder Tim Wheeler's sac-fly to left scored first baseman Kyle Parker, cutting the Cats lead to one, but Castro was able to finish the inning without allowing another run.

Left fielder Alden Carrithers took Sky Sox reliever Josh Roenicke deep with his second homer of 2014 in the bottom of the seventh inning. Carrithers cranked a 1-1 pitch over the right-field fence to give his club a 3-1 advantage. The left fielder finished the game 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI.

Castro tossed four innings in his debut with the River Cats, allowing one run - zero earned - on four hits and one walk with two strikeouts.

Picking up the win for Sacramento was reliever Philip Humber, who started the top of the fifth and pitched two scoreless innings, surrendering just two hits while striking out two to move to 5-4 on the season. Jeremy McBryde closed out the Sky Sox in the top of the ninth to pick up his 14th save of the year.

Buss collected two hits in four plate appearances, scoring a run and stealing a base, while Luis Martinez was 1-for-3 with an RBI to help the Cats take the contest.

With the win, Sacramento extended its lead in the Pacific Northern Division over the Reno Aces to four games as Reno fell to the Round Rock Express in extra innings.

Taking the loss for Colorado Springs was Jurrjens, who went six innings, giving up two runs - one earned - on five hits and two walks, picking up five strikeouts along the way. Wheeler went 0-for-3 with the lone RBI on the evening for the Sky Sox.

Righty Zach Neal (4-5, 4.81 ERA) toes the rubber for the River Cats against the Sky Sox and southpaw Brian Burres (1-6, 7.74 ERA) on Social Media Night at Raley Field with first pitch called for 7:05 p.m.
