Birmingham, Ala. - The Birmingham Barons dropped their seriesopener against the Jackson Generals and suffered their second shutout defeat in a row by a score of 4-0 in front of 788 fans at Generals Park.

The Barons squandered a number of early chances against Jackson starter Cam Hobson (8-9, 3.97) leaving nine runners on base in the first 5.0 innings.

Barons starter Tony Bucciferro (1-2, 5.71) kept pace with Hobson, holding the Generals scoreless over the first 5.0 innings before running into trouble in the sixth. In the inning, Jackson loaded the bases and took a 2-0 lead on a Jordy Lara RBI single. Bucciferro escaped the inning without further damage and finished the night with two runs allowed on seven hits over 6.0 IP.

The Generals tacked on two insurance runs in the eighth inning as Kevin Rivers plated Daniel Paolini with an RBItriple and scored on a base hit by Steve Baron against reliever Nestor Molina for a 4-0 lead they would not relinquish.

Reliever Trevor Miller held the Barons to just two hits over 3.0 scoreless innings while picking up his second save of the season as the Generals improved to 54-65 on the year and 23-27 in the second half. The shutout loss was the ninth of the season against the Barons and the second in as many games as they fell to 52-68 on the season and 23-27 in the second half.

The Barons and Generals will play a double-header tomorrow evening with game one scheduled for 5:05 PM CDT. TheBarons will send RHP Mike Recchia (5-3, 3.36) to the hill in game one against LHP Tyler Olson (6-7, 3.97).
