Danville Otterbots News Release

DANVILLE, VA - Danville came in to the rubber match with Bluefield looking to improve to 8-1 against the Jays, however a one-run lead going in to the seventh inning would not be enough for the D-Braves. Bluefield scored all three runs in the seventh inning, and shut the door on Danville in the series with a 3-1 victory.

Andrew Waszak was on the bump for the D-Braves, and threw a great first six innings. Once the seventh inning started however, the Bluefield lineup caught fire for three runs. Back to back singles by Lane Thomas and Rowdy Tellez resulted in Bluefield's first run. A walk and an errant pickoff attempt would then send Rowdy Tellez home from second making it a 2-1 Bluefield lead. In the same at bat Jesus Gonzalez would single in Gabriel Cenas for the final Bluefield run to cap it off.

Waszak would finish the game going 6.2 innings, giving up six hits and only the three runs in the seventh, he also walked a batter and struck out three. The game resulted in Waszak's sixth loss of the season, a team high.

Danville's offense managed only one run in the second inning on a Jose Morel sacrifice fly, and only three total hits for the game. Codey McElroy walked to lead off the second, and then proceeded to steal two bases back to back to put himself in scoring position. With the loss, Danville is now tied for second (Pulaski holds tiebreaker) in the Appalachian League East. Danville came into the game tied for first with Princeton, who leads by 0.5 games in the division.

The D-Braves will return to American Legion Post 325 Field tomorrow to begin a series with the Burlington Royals in a doubleheader. The first game is scheduled for 5:00 p.m., with the gates opening at 4:00 p.m. and the second game beginning approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one. Game one will be a full nine inning game, while game two will be a seven inning contest.
