Sacramento River Cats News Release

RENO, Nev. - Sacramento count not withstand Reno's offensive onslaught, losing to their I-80 rivals by a score of 17-4 at Aces Ballpark in Monday evening's series finale.

Reno began the game with a run in the bottom of the first inning before Sacramento tied it up with a run of their own in the top of the second inning on a Luis Martinez RBI-single to right field. That would be the last time Sacramento was within reach of a win, as the Aces plated four in the second, one in the third, and six in the fourth to take a 12-2 lead after four.

Reno added three runs in the fifth and two runs in the seventh, increasing their lead to 15, before Sacramento scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning when Colin Walsh singled-home Nick Buss and Billy Burns to make the score 17-4. That was as far as their comeback attempt would go, as Reno shut the door to win 17-4.

Sacramento collected 12 hits paced by Jose Martinez who went 3-for-4. Kyle Blanks went 2-for-3 in his second rehab outing, driving a solo home run in the third inning. In an effort to preserve their bullpen, the River Cats sent infielders Walsh and Alden Carrithers to the mound. Walsh allowed two runs in an inning of work, while Carrithers tossed one scoreless frame with one walk an one hit allowed. The loss was charged to Deck McGuire, who gave up 12 earned runs on 14 hits and two walks with two strikeouts in four innings for the loss.

Reno's 17 runs came on 23 hits-the most allowed in a season by the River Cats this season. Nick Ahmed went 4-for-6 with three runs, two RBI, and a triple, while Mike Freeman finished 4-for-5 with two runs, two RBI, and a walk. The win was awarded to Mike Bolsinger, who gave up two runs with nine strikeouts in 5.2 innings.

The River Cats NOW return home for an eight-game homestand on Tuesday, Aug. 12 when the Colorado Springs Sky Sox come to town. Sacramento righty Zach Neal (5-6, 4.81 ERA) will take on Sky Sox righty Jair Jurrjens (0-2, 3.75 ERA).
